Lions Battle Western Carolina in D1 Exhibition

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Western Carolina 108, Piedmont 47
Records: Western Carolina, 9-3; Piedmont, 6-4

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – In its final D1 exhibition contest of the season, the Piedmont College men's basketball team fell at Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon in Cullowhee.

The loss does not affect Piedmont's overall record, which will remain at 6-4 ahead of the team's USA South home opener on Saturday, Jan. 4 against N.C. Wesleyan.

Freshman guard ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS was the only Lion in double figures, scoring 11 points on 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. ANDREW STIMPSON banked a pair of three-pointers scoring eight points.

After the Catamounts raced out of the gate to take an early 14-2 lead over the first four-plus minutes, the Lions bounced back with a 6-2 run to cut their deficit back into single digits.

However, Western Carolina used an efficient offensive attack, shooting 70 percent in the first half on its way to a 54-23 lead at the break.

PC's offense went cold in the second half, as it was held to just 24 points. The Catamounts put up 54 points for the second straight half on their way to the 108-47 victory.

Up next, the Lions return home for a season-long five-game homestand, starting next Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m.
