REDLANDS, Calif. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team fell, 54-43, to Redlands in its first of two games in California this week.

The Lady Lions (6-5) were unable to generate much offense as the Bulldogs (7-2) kept them at arm's length for much of the second half.

Once again, freshman forward NAKIYAH WASHINGTON led Piedmont with 15 points while tallying eight rebounds.

PC's defense shined in the first quarter as it held the Bulldogs to just six total points. The Lady Lions only converted three field goals in the period, but two were three-pointers with one each from SARA BETH HANSARD and CARA CRUMP to give them an 8-6 lead heading into the second quarter.

The offense picked up for both sides in the second, with Redlands able to establish a 27-22 halftime lead thanks to knocking down 10 of its 11 first half free throws.

After scoring the first four points out of the break, Redlands used the momentum and led by as many as nine during the third quarter, holding the Lady Lions to 10 points in the period.

PC's offense continued to be stifled in the final quarter as the Bulldogs extended their lead to as many as 14 points and held on for the 11-point victory.

Up next, the Lady Lions will close out their California trip with another 10 p.m. contest on Tuesday, Dec. 17, taking on La Verne.

TURNING POINT:
- Redlands turned in a 21-point second quarter, taking a lead it never gave up early in the period.
