CHARLESTON, S.C. – In the first of two non-counting DI exhibition games during the 2019-20 season, the Piedmont College men's basketball team fell to The Citadel 129-83. The loss does not impact Piedmont's record which remains at 5-2 heading into conference play.
Piedmont shot out of the gates with tremendous energy connecting from deep on several 3-pointers building a 14-5 lead. The lead was short-lived as The Citadel went on to score 15 straight to claim the lead for good.
Three-pointers kept the Lions in the game early with eight 3's in the first half, but The Citadel pulled ahead and held a 70-39 lead at the break. Piedmont held The Citadel to 59 points in the second half and the Lions again connected on eight 3-pointers while limiting The Citadel to five.
ORRY CLEMENTS-OWENS led Piedmont with 19 points while
JUSTIN QUICK added 17.
JORDAN FOOTE scored eight points but was limited after getting in foul trouble early.
These stats will not impact Piedmont's overall statistics.
Up next, the Lions begin conference play at Huntingdon on Saturday, December 14 at 4 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
--The Lions took a 14-5 lead out of the gate but The Citadel used a 44-12 run over an eight minute span to take control of the contest.
