DECATUR, Ga. – The Piedmont College volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of contests at Agnes Scott Saturday. The Lady Lions lost to Covenant 3-1 in the first match and won 3-0 over Agnes Scott in the regular season finale. 

Match 1: Covenant 3, Piedmont 1

The Lady Lions (10-18, 6-8 USA South) were powerful out of the gate taking the opening set 25-12 over Covenant. The Scots' slow start was short-lived as they came back in the second to win 28-26. 

Piedmont led early in the second set 12-7, but the Scots rallied back and kept it close. Covenant nearly sealed the win with back-to-back points to lead 24-23 but a kill by ERICA BALKCUM tied the contest and forced extra points. The Scots secured the final three points and took the set 28-26. 

In the third, the Scots began to chip away at the Lady Lions with a 25-15 win, then the fourth was decided 25-21 to hand the Scots the win. 

Piedmont had three individuals with double-figure kills led by ALINA ROBERTS with 13. ERICA BALKCUM tallied 11 while ALYSSA HALL added 10. ALI WILKINS accounted for 42 assists while LAINEY CHOINIERE had 28 digs. 

Match 2: Piedmont 3, Agnes Scott 0

Piedmont left no doubt against the Scotties with a sweep 3-0. The Lady Lions took the first set 25-9 with several long runs. In the second set, the Scotties managed 12 but Piedmont claimed the second 25-12. 

The Lady Lions closed out the third set on a 7-1 run for a 25-11 victory. The Scotties were winless over the season as Piedmont won both matchups in straight sets. 

It was a true team effort as Balkcum led the team with nine kills with 10 Lady Lions recording a kill. JENNIFER HERRERA led the team with 18 assists. 

TURNING POINT:
--Against Covenant, Piedmont started strong but could not keep pace as the Scots won the final three sets.
--Piedmont easily over-powered the Scotties in the second match not allowing more than 12 points in a set. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--ERICA BALKCUM recorded 20 kills over the two matches to lead Piedmont over the weekend.
