Men’s Soccer Ends Season with 4-0 Tournament Loss at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Piedmont College men's soccer team fell, 4-0, at Maryville in the USA South Quarterfinals on Saturday evening.
 
The Lions (7-10-2) fell behind early, as the Scots (11-8) scored a pair of goals in each half to run away with the victory and advance to the semifinals.
 
Maryville did not waste any time jumping out to an early lead, as Aaron Rucker struck in the game's 12th minute off an assist from Trevor McDonald.
 
Minutes later, the Scots earned a penalty kick, which was converted by John Rakhmonberdiev to give the Lions a 2-0 halftime deficit.
 
Just over 13 minutes into the second half, the Scots added to their lead to go up by three goals before Rucker's second of the game capped the scoring late in the contest.
 
Piedmont's JOSE LINARES earned a penalty kick late in the second half with the Lions trailing 3-0, but Maryville keeper Mykal Manfred made the save to keep the shutout intact.
 
The loss concludes Piedmont's season with a 7-10-2 record.
 
TURNING POINT:
- Trailing 1-0 early, Piedmont quickly surrendered a second goal, fouling the Scots inside the box to give up a penalty kick, which was converted to put the Lions in an early 2-0 hole.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Scots outshot the Lions, 22-10, for the contest.
