ATLANTA, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team dropped a road contest, 83-76, to No. 19 Oglethorpe on Sunday afternoon in its final game of the USA South/SAA Classic.

The Lady Lions (1-1) got off to a slow start offensively, which led to an early deficit they were unable to overcome.

For the second straight game to open the season,
AMARI PRICE reached the 20-point mark, scoring 22 for the day to go with six rebounds and four assists. Freshman forward
NAKIYAH WASHINGTON delivered an outstanding showing, scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds while knocking down 9-of-11 free throws.

The Stormy Petrels raced out of the gate to take a double-digit lead early in the contest. However, Piedmont closed out the quarter on a 7-1 run to cut its deficit to 18-13 heading into the second. The Lady Lions were held to just 21 percent shooting in the period but connected on all six of their free throw attempts.Â

PC continued the momentum into the early portion of the second quarter, cutting Oglethorpe's lead to 22-21. However, the Stormy Petrels responded with a big run of their own to build a double-digit lead once again. Overall, the Lady Lions were held to just 24 percent shooting for the first half and went to the locker room trailing 38-25.

Oglethorpe continued to pull away early in the third quarter, building a lead of as much as 19 points. However, Piedmont started to rally late in the quarter and were able to go into the final 10 minutes only trailing by five points.

The fourth quarter continued the PC run, as the Lady Lions were able to tie the score briefly before the Stormy Petrels jumped back in front. Price caught fire from deep, knocking down two three-pointers in the quarter before picking up her fifth foul with 3:12 remaining as Oglethorpe began to pull back away and seal the win.

Up next, Piedmont will open its home schedule this Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. against Emory.

- With the Lady Lions trailing by 10Â late in the fourth quarter, Price picked up her fifth foul.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- For the second consecutive day, Price delivered for the Lady Lions, scoring 22 points, dishing out four assists and grabbing five rebounds,
- In just their second collegiate game, freshmen
NAKIYAH WASHINGTON and
EMILY WILEY reached double figures. The duo combined for 30 points (Washington, 19; Wiley, 11) while going 14-for-17 from the free throw line.

- Piedmont held a 44-34 rebounding advantage
- The Lady Lions earned 39 free throw attempts after earning 41 in their first game of the season against Berry.
