Lions Claim 78-69 Win Over Local Foe Toccoa Falls

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont College men's basketball team defeated local foe Toccoa Falls College Tuesday evening 78-69 behind an impressive performance from TAYLOR MILLS. The senior scored 22 points including six 3-pointers to help Piedmont to the nine point victory. 

Mills was on fire to start the contest as the Lions led 11-2 in the opening minutes after Mills banked three 3-pointers in the first 2:08 of play. The hot start gave the Lions control early, but the Screaming Eagles didn't bow out cutting the lead to 18-16 on back-to-back 3-pointers of their own from the hands of Nathan Cox.

The Lions were held scoreless for over 4:00 of clock during that stretch but a WILL RICHTER jumper ended the drought. Toccoa Falls took their first lead with 3:21 to go till the break, but EVAN EASTON hit a layup to give Piedmont the 32-31 advantage with 3:05 to go. Piedmont would not score again in the first half as the Screaming Eagles banked a last second fast break layup to lead 33-32 at the half. 

The Lions came out with intensity as it was TAYLOR MILLS who hit another 3-pointer to open the second half followed by a MARQUISE LANIER deep shot. MILES RILEY and EVAN EASTON both tacked on back-to-back shots to open up a 46-35 lead. 

Mills made back-to-back 3-pointers making it a 15-point game with 14:10 remaining and the Lions were able to maintain the lead down the stretch. 

All three of Piedmont's seniors were perfect at the free throw line including Lanier who was 4-for-4. 

Turning Point
--A 20-4 run to open the second half put Piedmont out in front by 15 and helped the Lions secure the lead. 

Standout Performances
--TAYLOR MILLS banked six from downtown as he scored 22 points to lead the Lions going 6-of-10 from 3-point range. 

Inside the Box Score
--Toccoa Falls finished the game 17-of-20 from the free throw line.

News & Notes
--Piedmont now posts an 18-3 record against the Screaming Eagles.
