Lady Lions Topple LaGrange to Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team rolled past LaGrange, 80-57, on Wednesday night at Cave Arena.

Already up 10 points heading into the second quarter, the Lady Lions (10-3, 4-0 USA South) used a furious second-quarter run to extend its lead to 25 points at the half.

From there, they never looked back, as the Panthers (5-6, 1-3 USA South) were unable to close the gap in the final 20 minutes.

Three Lions scored in double figures, led by standout junior AMARI PRICE, who tallied 16 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. JATASIA BAILEY added 15 points and four assists of her own while KELLY ACKERMAN added 14.

Piedmont jumped on LaGrange early, holding a 20-5 lead before a Panthers run cut their deficit to just 10 headed into the second period.

The Lady Lions used their defense to spark a 21-5 run over the last six minutes of the first half to take control of the game heading into the locker room.

The teams played even in the second half, with both tallying 30 points. The Lions led by as many as 26 points midway through the fourth quarter as they sealed their fourth straight victory.

Up next, Piedmont is back on the road looking to remain unbeaten in conference play. The team is back in action this Saturday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. against Huntingdon.
TURNING POINT:
- Leading by seven midway through the second quarter, the Lady Lions used a 21-5 run to close out the half and put the game away early.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES
- AMARI PRICE showcased her versatile skill-set, scoring 16 points and adding five rebounds and four assists.
- BRITTANY WALKER scored seven points and led the team with eight rebounds off the bench.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Piedmont dominated on the inside, outscoring the Panthers, 42-18, in the paint.
- The Lions also forced 15 turnovers and had 16 fast break points, compared to 0 for LaGrange.
