Â
DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team used a furious second-half rally to take down Brevard, 78-48, on Sunday afternoon at Cave Arena.
Â
After a slow offensive start, the Lady Lions (15-3, 9-0 USA South) exploded for 52 points in the second half to run away from the Tornados (7-9, 3-7 USA South) and earn their ninth straight win.
Â
Despite playing only 29 minutes due to foul trouble,
AMARI PRICE scored 24 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds. For the second consecutive game,
BRITTANY WALKER started and recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
JATASIA BAILEY scored all 11 of her points in the second half and added a season-high five steals.
Â
The first quarter was an offensive struggle for both teams. Piedmont made just three field goals but held Brevard to just 25 percent and the teams ended the period tied at 10.
Â
The scoring picked up in the second quarter, but neither team was able to separate. Price scored a game-high 12 points in the first half but was forced to sit the final four and a half minutes after picking up her second foul. The Tornados took advantage and grabbed a 27-26 edge into the locker room.
Â
After Brevard scored on its opening possession of the second half, the Lady Lions roared back to take an eight-point lead into the final 10 minutes.
Â
PC dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tornados 29-7 in the final period to run away with the 30-point victory.
Â
Up next, the Lady Lions conclude their four-game homestand this Wednesday, Jan. 16 against Agnes Scott at 6 p.m.
