Lady Lions Open Conference Play with Win Over LaGrange

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's soccer team opened its home schedule with a 3-0 win over USA South Athletic Conference opponent LaGrange College on Wednesday at the Walker Athletic Complex.

Both teams played to a 0-0 score in the first 28 minutes before senior JAZMIN PENADO, who made her season debut on Wednesday, scored from 20 yards out off a free kick in the 29th minute.

Just under three minutes later, sophomore VERONICA CAPPAS scored her first collegiate goal with an assist from freshman JULIA GIB to put Piedmont (1-1-1, 1-0 USA South) ahead 2-0 in the 32nd minute.

Piedmont would head into halftime with a 16-0 shot advantage and a 9-0 corner kick advantage.

The Lady Lions would continue the offensive onslaught in the second half with 17 shots, six being on goal.

In the 84th minute of the game after a LaGrange (1-1-1, 0-1 USA South) penalty inside the 18, sophomore CASSIE KIRK would convert a penalty kick to give Piedmont the 3-0 lead.

Goalkeeper MIRANDA MCNALLEY played all 90 minutes and faced one shot.

LaGrange goalie Emma Smith made 10 saves.
