DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win over Averett University on Saturday at the Walker Athletic Complex for a non-conference matchup with the Cougars.

Both teams battled extreme heat and were held scoreless in the first half while Piedmont held a 6-0 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes.

Sophomore VERONICA CAPPAS broke the scoreless tie in the 49th minute with a brilliant flick of the ball to beat the goalie. Seniors JAZMIN PENADO and SAMANTHA ISHEE assisted on the play.

Less than six minutes later, senior CASSIDY REICH scored her first goal of the season off a deflection from an Averett (0-4) defender inside the 18-yard box to put Piedmont (2-1-1) ahead 2-0.

Just over a minute later, a SAMANTHA ISHEE shot found the back of the net after the Averett goalie attempted a diving save but ended up watching the ball trickle into the goal.

Reich and Ishee led Piedmont with six and five shots, respectively.

After the Piedmont barrage of goals, Averett tightened up defensively and limited the PC chances until Reich scored the final Piedmont goal in the 81st minute to put PC ahead 4-0. Reich delivered an absolute strike from 35-yards out and found the top-right corner.

Junior EMILY SKELTON made her season debut in goal for Piedmont and saved two shots.
