Piedmont Women Cruise to 3-0 Win over Birmingham-Southern

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont women's soccer team defeated Birmingham-Southern 3-0 on a humid evening at the Walker Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.

Senior CASSIDY REICH scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season while sophomore ABBY COX scored her first goal of the season to give Piedmont (5-1-1) its fifth straight win.

Sophomore keeper MIRANDA MCNALLEY and the Piedmont back line once again provided lock down defense as the Panthers (4-1-1) were held to six shots. The 3-0 shutout is the sixth shutout for Piedmont this season and marks the 100th shutout of head coach Timmy McCormack's career as either an assistant or head coach at Piedmont.

Reich broke the scoreless tie in the 29th minute with an assist from SARAH WEBER after blasting a shot from 25 yards and placing it in the top-left corner and out of the reach of BSC's keeper.

The Lady Lions would take a 1-0 lead into halftime and held a 14-3 shot advantage over the Panthers.

Over 20 minutes into the second half, Reich scored her second of the game with help from VERONICA CAPPAS. Reich was able to hit the bottom portion of the crossbar to beat the goalie for Piedmont's second goal.

Cox capped off the scoring in the 76th minute after am AMANDA WEINHART deflection off a Panther defender found Cox waiting at the left side of the 18. The sophomore then buried the ball opposite side for her first goal of the season.
