LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Piedmont College softball team finished competition at the USA South tournament Saturday with a win against Covenant and a loss to Meredith. Piedmont won 11-3 over the Scots to begin the day but dropped a 9-1 decision to the Avenging Angels, eliminating the Lady Lions from the tournament.

MELISSA ECKMAN took the decision in the circle in both games with a win against the Scots giving up three runs on five hits. The Piedmont offense was scoring early and often with two runs in each the first and second innings to lead 4-0 after two complete.

It would be a 4-3 game heading into the seventh inning as the Scots cut it to a one-run game, but an offensive explosion with seven runs on seven hits in the top of the seventh would seal the Scots' fate with an 11-3 victory for Piedmont.

Game two was tied at one after the first inning, but that was all the offense the Lady Lions could muster as Meredith continued to add runs in each inning but the fourth. It was another late inning offensive push, this time in favor of the visitors, that pushed the Avenging Angels ahead enough to take a run-rule win in six innings.

Turning Point
--Piedmont left no doubt after the top of the seventh inning against Covenant putting up seven runs to seal the win.
--Meredith used a late four-spot in the sixth inning to claim a 9-1 win in six innings to run-rule Piedmont.

Standout Performances
--JOSIE COKER and JESSICA BAGWELL were both 3-for-5 in game one with Coker adding two RBI.

News & Notes
--Piedmont totaled 16 hits in game one against Covenant.

Up Next
--The Lady Lions are set to host Brevard on Tuesday at Walker Athletic Complex at 4 p.m.
