DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont College softball team split with #23 Emory University Thursday to finish the 2018 season. Piedmont picked up a 4-0 win in game one and dropped game two by a score of 11-3.

Game one was slow in the early going as neither team could muster much offense until the fourth inning when HANNAH HOBAN sealed the win for the Lady Lions with a 2-run home run over the left field wall to score JESSICA BAGWELL. Piedmont would add another two runs in the sixth inning as LINSAY LINK singled through the left side and scored a pair.

MELISSA ECKMAN pitched the complete game giving up five hits and two walks while the Eagles used three pitchers against Piedmont. Hoban posted the best numbers for the Lady Lions in game one going 2-for-2 with two RBI, a run scored and a walk. Five other Lady Lions each recorded a hit each.

Game two was all Eagles to begin with as Emory scored seven before Piedmont could make it on the board. The Eagles scored three in the first, one in the second and put up another three spot in the fourth, but the Lady Lions did answer back putting up a single run in each the fifth and sixth innings.

Turning Point
--HANNAH HOBAN hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the fourth off starter Jacqueline Spizizen handing Spizizen her fifth loss of the season.
--The Eagles were able to seal the win in the top of the sixth with four runs to push them ahead and end the contest in six innings.

Standout Performances
--MELISSA ECKMAN earned the win in game one to move her record to 17-8 to complete her junior season.

News & Notes
--The loss in game one for Emory marked just their ninth loss of the season and only the second shutout of the season for the Eagles.
