LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Piedmont men's tennis team lost 7-2 in the opening round of the USA South Athletic Conference tournament on Friday. 

With the loss, the Lions are eliminated from the conference tournament and finish the season with an 11-8 overall record. 

ANDREW CHITTY and BRYAN BARNETT scored Piedmont's first point after winning 8-2 at #3 doubles. Averett would take the next two matches to lead 2-1 after doubles play. 

The Cougars would go ahead 4-1, but senior NATHAN METZGER won 6-2, 7-5 at #1 singles to bring Piedmont back within two points. 

Averett won the next three matches to take a 7-2 final.
