LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Piedmont College softball team dropped a 3-2 game v. Averett in the USA South Tournament on Friday. Piedmont moves on to face Covenant on Saturday at 10:00 am in the double elimination tournament.
MELISSA ECKMAN pitched well for the Lady Lions going the distance but a pair of solo homeruns proved to be the difference in the contest. Eckman was twice able to get out of a bases loaded jam, but the Cougars managed three runs on eight hits.
Kaitlyn Aherron earned the win for the Cougars as she led off with a solo home run helping get the job done at the plate as well. Piedmont would answer back with an RBI triple by
MARIANN KENNISON to score
TK SAULS to tie the game at one.
The Lady Lions led 2-1 after a
BECKA ROSS homer in the fourth inning but Averett answered back and scored a pair themselves to take the lead and held on for victory.
Piedmont had just three hits in the game with Kennison accounting for two of the three and Ross' homer the other hit recorded.
Turning Point
--A solo homerun in the top of the seventh for the Cougars was the difference.
Standout Performances
--A solo shot for
BECKA ROSS in the fourth inning gave her her second home run of the season.
