LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Piedmont College baseball team lost their opener Thursday to LaGrange, dropping to the loser's bracket, but staved off elimination with a win over Huntingdon. The Lions lost a walkoff to LaGrange in the 10th inning 5-4, but outlasted the Hawks in a 13-9 win later in the day.
Piedmont took a 3-0 lead over the Panthers in the third inning, but LaGrange tacked back on a run in the fourth inning to trail 3-1.
JONATHEN BURKETT would drive in
BRADY BALLSTADT in the fifth making it 4-1, but LaGrange's Jacob Gassert hit the first home run of the tournament with a 3-run shot to left field to tie the contest.
It would remain knotted at four until the 10th inning when Austin Jones doubled down the right field line to score Gassert.
Game two was immediately following the walkoff loss, but Piedmont responded well and led 2-1 after the first inning. It was a high scoring affair from the start as Piedmont scored in every inning until the sixth with their biggest frame coming in the fourth.
Entering the fourth, Piedmont led 6-4, but another 3-run homerun against Piedmont would give the Hawks the 7-6 advantage with Taylor Fought going yard.
NOAH HEATHERLY answered with a 3-run hit of his own with a bases-clearing triple making it 9-7 and giving Piedmont the lead for good.
CALEB NORTON homered down the left field line to give PC its first homer of the tournament as the Lions would take the 13-9 win.
Five players had multi-hit games for Piedmont led by
BRADY BALLSTADT who was 3-for-3 with two walks, three RBI and two runs scored.
Turning Point
--Game one was a walkoff win for the home team as LaGrange managed a double off
BUDDY GREEN in the 10th inning handing
ALEX ANDREW the loss.
--Game two saw Piedmont take the lead for good on a
NOAH HEATHERLY bases-clearing triple as he hustled around to give PC a 9-7 lead in the fourth inning.
Standout Performances
--Heatherly scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch following his triple in game two as he was 2-for-4 with three RBI.

--This marks the second year that Piedmont has eliminated Huntingdon in the tournament.
