Piedmont Softball Splits With Chapman

ORANGE, Ca. - The Piedmont College softball team split a doubleheader with Chapman University Wednesday winning the first contest 7-3 before dropping the second 8-1. 

In game one, Piedmont once again was trailing early down 1-0 after the second inning, but the Lady Lions' response was a six run, seven hit third inning to claim a 6-1 lead. Included in that was a bases clearing triple by BECKA ROSS to score TK SAULS, HANNAH HOBAN and JESSICA BAGWELL. 

Piedmont would tack on another run in the next inning to lead 7-2 before Chapman plated its final run in the fourth. BECCA EDDINS earned the win for her first victory as a Lady Lion coming in for the final five innings giving up one run on three hits. 

In game two, the Lady Lions took the lead early with a 1-0 score after the top of the first as JOSIE COKER singled to score MARIANN KENNISON. The lead would last until the second inning when the Panthers would score four runs on two hits and three errors to lead 4-1. They would again have a four run inning in the fourth with four runs on two hits and another two errors. 

Turning Point
--It was a monster third inning for Piedmont that propelled them to victory in game one scoring six runs on seven hits in the third. 
--A pair of innings where Chapman scored four runs put the Panthers in charge in the second game. 

Standout Performances
--Four Lady Lions accounted for two hits each in game one with MARIANN KENNISON, JOSIE COKER, HANNAH HOBAN, and HALEY HIXON each recording two hits. 

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont had more hits than the Panthers in game two with seven hits to the Panthers' six. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont is now 3-1 on the California trip after sweeping Cal Lutheran Tuesday as well. 

Up Next
--Piedmont heads to Pomona-Pitzer on Friday for the final doubleheader of the California trip.
