Lady Lions Win Two Over Cal Lutheran to Start West Coast Trip

THOUSAND OAKS, Ca. - The Piedmont College softball team claimed a pair of victories over California Lutheran Tuesday to begin their California trip. The Lady Lions won 4-1 in game one and claimed a 6-3 victory in game two. 

MELISSA ECKMAN gave up one run on three hits in game one to earn the win as Cal Lutheran took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Lady Lions would respond in the sixth inning scoring three runs on four hits to take the lead and tacked on another in the seventh for insurance. 

Eckman also recorded eight strikeouts in the game while it was HALEY HIXON and BECKA ROSS who led PC with two hits each. 

In game two, it was MADISON WHITESIDE who picked up the win in the circle allowing three runs on seven hits with all three runs coming in the fourth inning. Piedmont led early with a run in the top of the first after JESSICA BAGWELL singled and sent MARIANN KENNISON home. 

The Lady Lions would add another run in the third inning to lead 2-0, but in the fourth Cal Lutheran would take the lead 3-2. It was once again the sixth inning that proved to be the difference as Piedmont would score three runs on four hits to lead 5-3 and again scored in the seventh inning as well. 

Turning Point
--The Lady Lions took the lead in game one in the sixth inning as they scored three runs on four hits to lead 3-1. 
--Piedmont also came from behind in game two as once again it was the sixth inning that proved to be the game changer for PC as they scored three runs on four hits once again. 

Standout Performances
--Both BECKA ROSS and HALEY HIXON were 2-for-3 in game one with Hixon also posting an RBI and a run scored.  
--HANNAH HOBAN was 3-for-3 in game two with an RBI and a walk. 

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont trailed in both contests overcoming adversity to claim the win. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont moves to .500 at 7-7 on the season with the pair of wins.

--The Lady Lions take on Chapman University in Orange, California on Wednesday at 6 & 8 p.m.
