DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont men's tennis team avenged a loss to the Scots on the road taking a 5-4 win at home over Covenant College Wednesday.
KANLER CUMBASS clinched the match at #3 singles in the final decision of the match.Â
Piedmont took an early lead with a win at #3 doubles by
ANDREW CHITTY and
BRYAN BARNETT 8-4, but the Scots took #1 and #2 doubles in tight 8-6 decisions.Â
HARRISON LABOLLITAÂ and Barnett claimed wins at #5 singles and #4 singles, respectively, to give the Lions the lead again 3-2, but Covenant claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at #2 to make it three all.Â
ANDREW CHITTY took a 6-3, 6-1 win at #6, but again, Covenant answered back taking #1 singles play 6-2, 6-4. It all came down to the final decision at #3 singles as
KANLER CUMBASSÂ rose to the occasion winning 7-6 (5), 6-3.
The loss marked the first in conference play for the Scots this season.Â
