Softball Splits with LaGrange on the Road

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Piedmont College softball team split with LaGrange on the road Saturday with a 7-0 win in game one while taking a 5-3 loss in game two. The loss in game two marks the first loss in conference play for the Lady Lions this season. 

In game one, MELISSA ECKMAN made it easy on the offense as she stifled the Panthers allowing no runs on five hits through seven innings pitched. Eckman also struck out seven batters. 

MARIANN KENNISON put PC on the board first with a 2-RBI single as she was 1-for-2 with three RBI. HANNAH HOBAN also accounted for three RBI as she was 2-for-4. The Lady Lions scored seven runs on eight hits as the Panthers had three errors as well. 

Game two saw Piedmont get off to a quick start scoring two runs in the top of the first, but LaGrange would answer back with two of their own in the bottom of the frame to end the first tied at two. The Panthers led 3-2 after the third inning but this time it was Piedmont that would answer in the top of the fourth. 

Two walks and a single loaded the bases for JESSICA BAGWELL who singled to score one run and tie the game once again at three. 

The Panthers scored a pair of runs off BECCA EDDINS as she pitched 2.1 innings of relief work with a run scored in each the fifth and sixth innings. 

Turning Point
--MARIANN KENNISON had the game-winning hit with a single up the middle to score a pair in the third inning of game one to put PC on the board.
--The game was tied at three heading into the fifth inning but the Panthers were able to plate one run in each the fifth and sixth innings to take the win. 

Standout Performances
--MELISSA ECKMAN was lights out in the circle as she shutout the Panthers in game one allowing just five hits. 
--Kennison and JESSICA BAGWELL were both 2-for-4 in game two. 

News & Notes
--The Lady Lions are now 7-1 in conference play and sit in second in the league standings for the West Division.

--Piedmont travels to Huntingdon College to take on the Hawks on Sunday at 1:00 & 3:00 p.m.
