Lions Earn Comeback Win Over Brevard 5-4

BREVARD, N.C.  - In come-from-behind fashion, the Piedmont College baseball team earned its second-straight 5-4 win over Brevard College Saturday. The Lions trailed 3-0 heading into the sixth inning but took the lead 5-3 and held on for victory. 

The Tornados got after starter DAVID CRAFT early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and another in the second to lead 3-0. Craft settled in and went on to earn the win as he pitched seven innings giving up six hits, three runs, and striking out nine. 

JABIN SMITH got the offense going in the top of the sixth as he singled followed by JUSTIN GROOVER reaching after being hit by a pitch. With one out, ANDREW BURDEN tripled to send both home and cut the lead to 3-2 Tornados. 

NOAH HEATHERLY singled in the next at bat to drive in Burden and tie the game. Both FOWLER BROOKS and EVAN MEADE would earn RBI in the inning to give Piedmont five runs and enough to secure the win. 

BUDDY GREEN earned his third save of the season pitching the ninth inning giving up just one hit. 

Turning Point
--Piedmont's offense exploded in the sixth inning with five runs on five hits as Piedmont tallied seven total hits in the game. 

Standout Performances
--ANDREW BURDEN hit a 2-RBI triple in the sixth inning to start the scoring for the Lions. 

Inside the Box Score
--JABIN SMITH was the only member of the Green & Gold to account for more than one hit as he was 2-for-5 on the day. 

News & Notes
--The Lions have won eight of their last 10 games.
