DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont College softball team lost both games in Friday's doubleheader to No. 8 ranked Berry College.

The Lady Lions lost 16-0 in five innings in Game 1 and fell 7-4 in Game 2.

It was all Vikings in Game 1 with a 9-0 lead after the top of the first as Berry batted around in the first frame with nine runs on six hits and an error. The lead was too much for the Lady Lions to come back from as Berry would add two runs in the fourth and another five in the fifth.

HALEY HIXON and MADISON GARRETT recorded the only two hits for Piedmont as BECCA EDDINS took the loss. The freshman falls to 3-2 on the season.

In game two, the Vikings once again lit up the scoreboard in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, TAYLOR WARREN scored off a JOSIE COKER single.

Berry added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-1 lead but the Lady Lions would not go away quietly. Facing two outs with ALLYSON GENTRY on first, MARIANN KENNISON doubled to centerfield to score Gentry and put herself in a scoring position.

Coker would record her second RBI of the day after a single up the middle.

After Berry extended its lead in the sixth by one run, Piedmont found itself in a good position as a single and two walks loaded the bases with no outs. Back-to-back fielder's choices prevented Piedmont from scoring until Kennison was hit by a pitch to score MADELEINE KALAFUT. The Lady Lions were unable to score anymore runs in the game.

MELISSA ECKMAN pitched a complete-game and falls to 7-6 on the season.

Turning Point
-- Berry exploded for nine runs in the first inning in Game 1 to put the game away.
-- The Lady Lions were able to score only one run in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and no outs in Game 2.

News & Notes
--Berry is currently ranked eighth in the NFCA Division III poll.
