DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont College softball team took two games against Covenant College on Tuesday, winning 8-0 in five innings in Game 1 and 2-1 in Game 2.
Junior Pitcher
MELISSA ECKMAN earned both wins in the circle for the Lady Lions to improve her season record to 6-5. With the wins, the Lady Lions remain unbeaten in the USA South Athletic Conference.
Junior
MARIANN KENNISON led the Lady Lions with three runs and three RBI while senior
JESSICA BAGWELL had a team-high four hits in the two games. Junior
JOSIE COKER added two runs and three hits.
In Game 1, Piedmont jumped out a 2-0 lead after after a Bagwell brought Kennison and Coker home. The Lady Lions cranked up the offense in the second inning and scored six runs to put the game away.

ALLYSON GENTRY was hit by a pitch. Leading 4-0 with the bases loaded, Kennison had a bases-clearing triple to right field to put Piedmont ahead 7-0. Coker would then single to right center to bring Kennison home to finish the scoring for Piedmont.
Covenant kept things close in Game 2 after the scots scored their only run of the day in the top of the second inning. The Lady Lions jumped out 1-0 after a
HANNAH HOBAN single scored Coker.
After a Covenant pitching change in the fifth inning, a Bagwell single scored Kennison to give Piedmont a 2-1 lead. Eckman entered the game in the fifth inning and finished the game with two strikeouts and one hit.
Turning Point
-- The Lady Lions had a six-run second inning in Game 1 to put the game out of reach.
-- In Game 2, Bagwell brought in Kennision off a single to right center.
