Lady Lion Basketball Drops Road Contest 60-45 to Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team dropped a 60-45 decision on the road against Brevard College Wednesday. The loss is just the fifth of the season for Piedmont as the team wraps up the regular season on Sunday against Wesleyan. 

Brevard got off to a hot start in the first period as they outscored the Lady Lions 21-8 through the first 10:00 of play. Piedmont scored from the free throw line early, but the first basket for PC from the floor came over 4:30 into the contest. 

Piedmont had an 8-0 run to make it 27-25 trailing by two with 2:28 to go until halftime, but the Tornados would power through and take a 33-27 lead into the break.

The Lady Lions have seemed to play their best basketball out of halftime in recent years, but the trend did not hold true Wednesday. Piedmont scored just three points in the third quarter with a free throw by AMARI PRICE and a layup by BRITTANY WALKER. 

Trailing by 18 entering the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions got the lead to as few as 10 but were never able to break past double figures falling 60-45 in the contest. 

Turning Point
--The Lady Lions managed just three points in the third quarter as they were outscored 15-3 in the period. 

Standout Performances
--CARLIE SHIELDS led the team with 13 points as she was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. 

News & Notes
--This is Piedmont's first pair of back-to-back loss this season as the Lady Lions have just five losses all year. 

Up Next
--The Lady Lions head to Wesleyan on Sunday, February 11 for tip-off at 1 p.m.
