MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Piedmont men's tennis team opened its USA South Athletic Conference schedule with a convincing 9-0 win over the Hawks of Huntingdon College.
The Lions opened the Friday's match with three-straight doubles wins.
The #2 doubles team of
ANDREW CHITTY and
HARRISON LABOLLITA had the easiest win for Piedmont as they cruised to an 8-1 win while the #1 team of
NATHAN METZGER and
JACKSON HILL won 8-4.
The #3 team of
BRYAN BARNETT and
CHASE MORRIS escaped a close match to take a 9-8 win.
In singles play, Piedmont won straight sets in five of six matches. Metzger sealed the win for the Lions at #1 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win. Hill won at #2 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory while #5
SAMUEL NIEBANCK took a 6-3, 6-3 win.
Barnett cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles and Alex Tomlin battled to a 7-5, 7-5 at #4.
KANLER CUMBASS had the most difficulty but took a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 win at #3.
