Men's Basketball Drops Quarterfinal Contest v. Covenant 83-67

DEMOREST, Ga. - In the USA South quarterfinals, Piedmont's men's basketball team dropped an 83-67 game to Covenant as the Scots advanced to the semifinals. The loss finalizes Piedmont's record at 15-11 for the season marking the second 15-win season for this group of seniors. 

It was never more than a four point game until Covenant strung together seven points to lead 29-21 with 5:59 to play in the first half. Back-to-back 3-pointers for the Scots gave them a 10-point lead but Piedmont cut it to seven at the half trailing 41-34.

The Lions cut it to three points 41-38 out of the break, but the Scots' first three made baskets of the second half were from deep and stretched the lead to 10 points again. Piedmont would get as close as three points, but Covenant went on another 9-0 run to take it back to double-digits and held on. 

Coach Greg Neeley gave the seniors the opportunity to exit the court together one last time putting in MALIK ABDULGADER and NICK RYAN with 1:24 to play and gave the four seniors an exit with just under a minute remaining. 

Turning Point
--A 9-0 run for Covenant with just under 6:00 to go put the Scots ahead 68-56 and gave them the space they needed to hold on for the victory. 

Standout Performances
--JUSTIN VALLEJO and ELIJAH ALSTON both posted double-doubles to end the season. 

Inside the Box Score
--Covenant had 12 3-pointers to Piedmont's two in the contest creating a 30-point differential. 

News & Notes
--Covenant moves on to face N.C. Wesleyan in the semifinals of the USA South tournament.
