Piedmont Drops Pair of Contests to End Piedmont Classic

Demorest ,GA - The Piedmont College softball team dropped a pair of contests today in the final games played in the Piedmont Classic. The Lady Lions lost 4-2 to the Pride of Greensboro College and 7-1 to Birmingham-Southern.

Against Greensboro, the Lady Lions scored first with a run in the top of the second after a pair of singles as JESSICA BAGWELL scored on a single by HALEY MCCURRY. The lead was short-lived as the Pride answered in the bottom of the frame with a run of their own after a pair of walks and a double. 

Piedmont once again took a lead in the top of the sixth, but again, Greensboro would answer. In the bottom of the sixth, the Pride scored three runs without a hit as the Lady Lions had a pair of errors. 

In game two, BSC took the lead on an RBI double to left center, but Piedmont would tie the contest in the bottom of the fourth as JESSICA BAGWELL drove in ALEXIS OWENS. The difference came off the bat of Savannah Lee for BSC as she had back-to-back homeruns in the fifth and seventh innings to seal the win for the Panthers.

Turning Point
--In the bottom of the sixth, Greensboro scored three runs with no hits and two errors in the frame after Piedmont had taken the lead 2-1 earlier that inning. 
--Birmingham-Southern scored four runs in the top of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.

Standout Performances
--JOSIE COKER was 3-for-4 in the contest against Greensboro as one of three players with a multi-hit game. 
--Savannah Lee had a pair of homeruns for BSC with five total RBI.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont out-hit Greensboro 8-4. 

News & Notes
--The Lady Lions return to tournament action next weekend taking part in the Gram Slam Tournament in Raleigh, N.C.

--Piedmont is set to host Agnes Scott on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at home.
