DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team cruised to a 77-29 win over Wesleyan on Wednesday night in the team's home opener at Cave Arena.

The Lady Lions (7-3, 2-0 USA South) held the Wolves (0-8, 0-2 USA South) scoreless over the final 6:30 of the second quarter to build an insurmountable lead at halftime.

Piedmont had 12 players accrue over 10 minutes of playing time, with no one playing over 22. The team was led by
HOPE FRANKLIN, who tallied 14 points and six rebounds in just 11 minutes. She was the only Lion in double figures, but freshman forward
BRITTANY DEVANE scored a career-best seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

After Wesleyan knocked down a three-pointer on its first possession, PC took the lead at 4-3 with 8:40 remaining in the first period and led the rest of the way.

Leading 30-13 heading into the second quarter, the Lady Lions used their defense to hold the Wolves to five points in the period and take control of the game.

The second half was more of the same, as Piedmont held the Wolves to 11 total points and continued to separate for the 48-point victory.

Up next, the Lady Lions have over a week break before resuming USA South action with a 2 p.m. contest at Brevard on Saturday, Dec. 15.

TURNING POINT:
- The Lady Lions used a 20-6 run over the final six minutes of the opening quarter to take control of the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

HOPE FRANKLIN led the Lady Lions with 14 points in just 11 minutes.

BRITTANY DEVANE scored her first career points, totaling seven for the game to go along with a team-best 10 rebounds.

RAEGINE NEWKIRK scored nine points on 4-of-4 shooting.

JASMINE SULLIVAN added her first career field goal, scoring two points and adding a team-best three blocks.
