LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Led by
AMARI PRICE's triple-double and a pair of clutch three-pointers from
JATASIA BAILEY, the Piedmont College women's basketball team prevailed, 80-77, at Covenant in its USA South opener.
After jumping out to a 27-9 lead after the first 10 minutes, the Lions (6-2, 1-0 USA South) allowed the Scots (1-4, 0-1 USA South) to rally back and take the lead late. However, Piedmont responded as Bailey hit the game-tying three with 50 seconds left before nailing the eventual game-winner two seconds later following a Covenant turnover.
After nearly recording her first career triple-double in the season opener against Sewanee, Price showcased her all-around game, delivering 19 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists and six steals
The opening quarter was kind to the Lions as they built an 18-point lead after the first 10 minutes of action.
The Scots rallied in the second quarter to cut their halftime deficit to 44-33. Covenant scored 24 points in the period to cut into Piedmont's lead. Price scored eight first-half points to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Covenant continued its momentum into the third quarter, outscoring PC 22-15 in the quarter to cut its deficit to just four entering the final 10 minutes.
Then, after trailing the entire way, the Scots took their first lead at 61-60 with 7:33 remaining. The game was played tightly the rest of the way, as neither team was able to separate by more than three points.
With Covenant leading, 77-74, with one minute left, Bailey's first three tied the game with 50 ticks remaining. Then, after a timeout by the Lions, the Scots turned the ball over on the inbounds pass and Bailey's dagger three-pointer with 48 seconds left turned out to be the difference.
The Lady Lions are back in action tomorrow as they step out of conference to take on Birmingham-Southern at 5 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- Bailey's two three-pointers within two seconds of game time proved to be the difference, as Covenant was unable to rally on the ensuing possession.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Price's triple-double was the first of her career as the junior scored 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out a career-high 12 assists. She also added six steals.

JATASIA BAILEY scored 19 points, including the final six of the contest. The senior from Gainesville, Georgia was 0-of-4 from beyond the arc before her two clutch shots in the final minute.

HOPE FRANKLIN chipped in with 13 points on 6-of-8 from the field.
- Reigning USA South Player of the Week
KELLY ACKERMAN was the final Lion in double figures with 11 points on a team-high three three-pointers.
