MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Piedmont College volleyball team took down two of the top three seeds in the West Division Friday with wins over Huntingdon and Maryville. The Lady Lions swept the Hawks 3-0 while it was a five-set thriller against Maryville that went in favor of PC 3-2. 

It looked like the Hawks were in control in the first set leading 8-3 and then late in the set 23-17. The Lady Lions managed to pull off an 8-0 run to win the first set in comeback fashion and lead 1-0. 

The second set was close throughout as Piedmont took a 25-21 win and a 25-19 win in the third. Piedmont handed Huntingdon just its third loss in conference play after the Hawks went to five sets in a loss to Maryville to open the tri-match. 

Against Maryville, it would take five sets to determine a winner as the Scots went to their second five-set match of the day, but this time the Scots were defeated as Piedmont won 3-2. 

Piedmont cruised in the first two sets 25-19, 25-20, but then the Scots battled back to make it 2-2 forcing a fifth set. It was a tight battle down to the wire as the two teams were tied at 10 in the fifth set, but Piedmont rose to the occasion and won 15-11 to knock off the Scots.

Turning Point
--Piedmont trailed 23-17 in the first set against Huntingdon but rallied to take the opening set and controlled the match. 
--It all came down to the fifth set tied at 10, but Piedmont was able to outlast the Scots to win 15-11. 

Standout Performances
--ERICA BALKCUM tallied 19 kills against the Scots for a career-high for the junior. 

News & Notes
--The Lady Lions concluded the regular season with a 13-10 overall record and a 9-5 mark in league play.

--Piedmont awaits the announcement of USA South tournament seeding to determine their opponent and location for the first round on Tuesday, October 30.
