KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Piedmont College women's soccer team defeated Wesleyan College 4-0 on Friday after resuming the game which began on Sept. 29 in Macon, Ga. The game was originally suspended due to lightning and was eventually postponed to Oct. 12.
At the time of the suspension, Piedmont (7-3-1, 3-0 USA South) led 4-0 with goals from
CASSIDY REICH (2),
MADISON HATFIELD and
VERONICA CAPPAS.
Reich scored the game's first goal in the 11th minute with an assist from
JAZMIN PENADO, her first of three.
Hatfield scored her first career goal in the 43rd minute with an assist from
KATELYN SMITH to make it 2-0 with just over two minutes remaining in the first half.
Piedmont outshot the Wolves (1-8-1, 0-2 USA South) 17-2 in the opening 45. Sophomore
MIRANDA MCNALLEY recorded no saves in the first half.
Penado found Reich again to begin the second half to Put Piedmont ahead 3-0 in the 48th before Cappas scored less than 10 minutes later with help from Penado and Reich.
EMILY SKELTON played the remainder of the game in goal and made one save.
