LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Piedmont women's basketball team used a 32-7 run in the first half to build an early lead in Tuesday's USA South 71-51 win over Covenant College. AMARI PRICE and CARLIE SHIELDS combined for 37 points in the win.
 
Trailing 8-7, Piedmont outscored the Scots 13-2 in 5:34 to lead 20-10 after the first quarter. The Lady Lions again took control and outscored Covenant by 14 points in the second to lead 39-15 at halftime.
 
Shields scored 13 of her 17 points in the first quarter while going 5-of-6 from the field.
 
PC scored six unanswered points to pull ahead by 30 in the opening 1:53 of the second half, but Covenant would begin to chip away at the Lions' lead and trailed by 16 going into the final quarter of play.
 
A Covenant 3-pointer would eventually cut the lead to 11 with 6:39 to play, but the Lady Lions held strong and closed the game with a 17-8 run.
 
DAKOTA SULLENS scored 13 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. JATASIA BAILEY added 10 points.

--The Lady Lions used a 32-7 run to take a lead they would not surrender for the remainder of the game.

Standout Performances
-- Shields recorded six rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal to go along with her 17 points.
-- Price added seven rebounds, four assists and one steal to her 20-point performance.

Inside the Box Score
-- Price notched her third career game with 20 or more points.
-- Piedmont had four players score double-digit points.

-- Piedmont has won 14 consecutive games against covenant.
