Lions Cruise to 5-1 Victory over Conference Opponent Berea

BEREA, Ky. – The Piedmont men's soccer team returned to USA South Athletic Conference play on Saturday and earned a 5-1 win over Berea College as CHASE KANE scored a hat-trick in the win.

Kane scored goals in the 23rd, 50th and 65th minute to lead the Lions to victory. Kane's goal in the 65th came off a penalty kick and closed the scoring for the Lions.

The Lions took five shots in the first 20 minutes of play before Kane found the back of the net from an assist by CAMERON EARLS. Kane finished with a game-high seven shots.

NATHAN METZGER scored in the 39th minute with an assist from JOSE LINARES to put Piedmont ahead 2-0. The Lions would go into halftime with a 2-0 lead and a 12-1 shot advantage.

Kane didn't waste much time in the second half and gave PC a comfortable 3-0 lead less than minutes into the half. Linares would score his first goal of the season in the 55th.

After a Berea foul, Kane notched his third goal off a penalty kick to ice the game. The Mountaineers managed to a goal in the 72nd minute to avoid the shutout.

The defense for Piedmont played another solid game and allowed only two shots and no corner kicks. Piedmont outshot Berea 26-2 during the contest.

VICTOR MUNOZ, TINO MAKINA and TOMMY HILL each finished with three shots.

-- Leading 2-0 at halftime, the Lions scored twice in a nine minute span to put the game out of reach.
