Lynchburg, VA - In the final series of the 2017 season, the Piedmont College baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Lynchburg on the road Friday in a doubleheader sweep. The Lions won 5-0 in the first contest in seven innings and picked up a 5-1 win in the second contest.
Sophomore
BRADY BALLSTADT set the single season total bases record for the Lions in the NCAA Era program history as he has 98 in the 2017 season.
The Lions won 5-0 in dominant fashion as
MAX BENING tossed the complete seven innings in game one of the doubleheader moving to 7-4 on the season. Piedmont scored a single run in each the third and fourth innings and added three in the sixth to control the first contest.
In game two, Piedmont claimed a 5-1 victory with
SAM CARPENTER earning the win tossing seven innings allowing one run on five hits. Piedmont had a 2-0 lead until the seventh inning as the Hornets cut it to 2-1 following the stretch, but the Lions answered with three runs in the ninth inning to seal the contest.
Turning Point
--The Lions scored the game-winning run in the third inning as
CALEB NORTON scored on a wild pitch.
--Piedmont was in control in game two and left no doubt scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Standout Performances

MAX BENING went the complete seven innings in game one allowing only two hits to the Hornets.

BRADY BALLSTADT set the single season total bases record in the NCAA Era program history with 98 now to his credit in 2017.
Inside the Box Score
--Both Ballstadt and
CALEB NORTON recorded two hits each in the first contest accounting for half of PC's eight hits.
--Ballstadt,
GRIFFIN OLSON and
GRIFFIN CARACCIOLO each had two hits in game two of the day.

--With the pair of victories, Piedmont moved to 24-20 on the season.
