Durham, N.C. - The Piedmont College track and field teams competed at the inaugural Atlantic Independent Championships Thursday with the men coming in second with 135 points while the women finished second with 110 points. The difference came in the throws where Methodist earned 64 points on the men's side and 46 on the women's side.
JULIA GRAHAM was named women's meet MVP after she won three events-the women's 400m hurdles, 400m and 100m hurdles. Graham ran a 59.01 in the open 400m for a school record while also setting the school record in the 100m hurdles. Graham also finished fourth in the women's 100m setting another school record, came in third in the women's long jump competition and finished fifth in the 200m dash with her fourth school record of the meet.
KYLE RAY won the men's pole vault clearing 4.40m (14-05.25) and set the school record in the javelin. Piedmont claimed both 800m titles as
ANALEE BRADACH won the women's 800m (2:27.85) with
ALVIN JACOBS taking the top spot in the men's 800m (1:59.05). Bradach also finished as the runner up in the women's 1500m with a school record time with Jacobs also racing the men's 400m.
BRYCE GRIGGS had his best performance in the men's 1500m as another meet champion for the Lions with a 4:13.83 in the event.
NATHAN GALLOWAY and
WILLIAM FOSTER also raced the 1500m coming in 3rd and 6th, respectively. Griggs also competed in the men's 800m as well coming in third.
BROOKE HARDEGREE won the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.20m (33-05.75), finished second in the long jump (4.83m, 15-10.25) and set the school record in the high jump. Graham came in third in the long jump while
ALEXANDRA LEONARDIS scored as well coming in sixth. The combination of
MEGAN BEATY, Hardegree, Leonardis and Graham finished second in the women's 4x100m relay.
Graham, Hardegree and Beaty finished 1, 2, and 3 in the women's 100 hurdles while on the men's side in the 110 hurdles it was
JOSH REDMOND who came in third overall with a school record time. Redmond also claimed third in the 400m hurdles with
ESTEBAN SALAZAR taking third in the men's 100m, setting the school record.
NICK LEMONS was also a meet champion in the men's high jump clearing 1.90m (6-02.75) setting the school record. The day began with
CODY PARKER and
ANDREW GALE earning the first points of the day coming in 3rd and 4th in the men's 10,000m. Both doubled up racing the 5,000m competition later in the day as well along with
NATHAN GALLOWAY and
BRYCE GRIGGS. Galloway won the 5,000m with Griggs coming in second while Parker and Galloway were 6th and 7th.
Jarrod Howell and
NATHAN CREWS competed in the men's 3,000m steeplechase with Howell claiming third and Crews coming in fourth. Piedmont went 2, 3 and 5 in the men's 400m with Salazar leading the way running a 50.01, a new school record, followed by
NICK LEMONS (50.43) and Jacobs (50.63).
The men's 4x400m relay team of Jacobs, Lemons, Redmond and Salazar finished second to Methodist by just over half a second running a 3:25.60 breaking their own school record.
Standout Performances

JULIA GRAHAM scored 44 points in the competition including winning the women's 400m hurdles, 400m dash and 100m hurdles being named Atlantic Independent Championships MVP for the women.
Inside the Results
--Piedmont had 10 individuals claim the top spot in events as meet champions.
