In Track & Field
As a Junior (2015-16): Competed in the 400m and distance medley relay during the indoor season…Broke the six-year school record in the 400m with a 54.99 at the Mountaineer Open…Helped the men to a school record in the distance medley relay (11:28.81) at the Tiger Indoor Invitational…Set three school records in the outdoor opener at the Victor Icebreaker Duals in the 200m, 400m and 4x400 relay…Also set the 800m record at the ‘Southern Invitational running a 2:03.72…Broke his own record in the 200m at the Emory Invitational recording a 23.04…Broke his own record in the 400m to start the outdoor season and again at the Emory Invitational and Falcon Classic with his best time at 51.01…Helped the men’s 4x400 team to a school record in the season opener and again two more times during the season including the best performance at the Mountain Laurel Invitational (3:38.86) where Salazar broke 50 seconds on the anchor leg running a 49.95 split.
In Cross Country
As a Sophomore (2014): Raced in all eight competitions of the season…Ran under 30:00 in four of the six 8k races in 2014…Set back-to-back personal records at the Berry Invitational and the USA South Championship meet…Finished 9th in the conference earning second team all-conference honors with a time of 29:21.51…Helped his team to a second place finish in the league...Part of the men's team that set the school record with the fastest team average time ever at 29:00 and had all five Lions across the line under 30:00 for the first time.
As a Freshman (2013): Participated in all eight races in the fall for the Piedmont Lions...Finished 12th out of 42 competitors in the 30th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational with a time of 30:29.6...Placed 19th in the USA South Conference Championships...Ended his fall season with a 31:10.3 in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Region Cross Country Championships.
Prep & Personal: Born September 3rd, 1993 to parents Esteban and Guadalupe…One of five children including brothers Victor and Antonia as well as sisters Amelia and Odalys…2013 graduate of Gainesville High School…Entered Piedmont with plans to pursue a career in Physical Therapy…Honors student in Spanish and enrolled in accelerated math courses…President of National Art Society chapter, Treasurer of Beta Club, member of Spanish National Honor Society and yearbook…Also involved in Featherbone Communiversity Academy…Ran track and field in high school and was also on the swim team…Prepped under four different high school coaches at Gainesville and also ran for the Platinum Sprinters…Led his high school team to its first ever Hall County championship during his senior season…Finished 1st in the 4 by 400 and was 8th in the region…Went to state meet for cross country in senior year.
