Four Goal Performance from Bumpass Not Enough as Lady Lions Fall 12-9 to Wittenberg

Georgetown, TX - The Piedmont College women's lacrosse team started off their trip to the Lone Star State facing off against Wittenberg University where the Lady Lions fell 12-9 despite a highlight performance from freshman ROWAN BUMPASS.

The Tigers started quickly going on an early four goal run in the opening six minutes of the game. ROWAN BUMPASS would start the scoring for PC with just over 23 minutes in the half followed quickly by a goal from fellow freshman DOMONIQUE STEELE

Three more goals for Wittenberg would extend their lead to 7-2 in the closing five minutes of the first half. Senior JENNA SMITH would steal the momentum back for the Lady Lions scoring back-to-back goals to close out the half with PC trailing 7-4.

The Tigers would come back after the break with two goals coming with less than a minute in between extending their lead to 9-4. Smith found Bumpass twice in a row to close the gap with Piedmont trailing 9-6 with under 15 to play, but both teams would score three more before the final buzzer as the Tigers edged out the Lady Lions 12-9. 

Turning Point
--The first half was the difference maker as the Lady Lions were unable to battle back from the early four goals by the Tigers.

Standout Performances
--ROWAN BUMPASS led the Lady Lions in scoring with four goals on six shots in the contest.
--JENNA SMITH finished the game with six points, three coming from goals and three from assists.

Inside the Box Score
--The Lady Lion defense had their hands full as BLAKE FORREST saw 32 shots throughout the game.

News & Notes
--This is the first contest between the two teams as Piedmont traveled to Texas for the neutral site game.

The Lady Lions will wrap up their spring break trip taking on Southwestern University on Friday, March 10 at 7 p.m.
