Demorest ,GA - In the final step outside of conference play for Piedmont, the Lady Lion softball team picked up a pair of wins over DePauw University Tuesday afternoon. Piedmont won by a single run in each contest with a 2-1 win in game one and a 1-0 victory in the series finale. 

The Lady Lions took the lead in the second inning of game one when AUDREY ESAKOFF singled to right field sending home JESSICA BAGWELL as Piedmont scored one run on one hit and an error. 

Both runs of the first contest were unearned for the Lady Lions after a pair of errors by the Tigers with the second run coming in the fourth inning as ALEXIS OWENS advanced to third on an error by the catcher and came around to score on the play. That proved to be the game winning run as Piedmont was up 2-1 at that point after a run by the Tigers in the top of the frame.

SARAH WALKER earned the win pitching the complete game giving up four hits and one run to move to 11-7 this season. MELISSA ECKMAN pitched game two with a lights out performance allowing only three hits moving to 11-5 herself. 

Piedmont got on the board early with the lone run of the game coming in the bottom of the first as HANNAH HOBAN doubled to drive in HALEY HIXON. The Lady Lions had five hits in the second contest with HALEY HIXON accounting for three of those going 3-for-3 at the plate. 

Turning Point
--ALEXIS OWENS capitalized on an error by the catcher in the first game to score the game-winning run in the fourth inning. 
--HANNAH HOBAN doubled in the first inning to drive in HALEY HIXON for the lone run of the game in the second contest. 

Standout Performances
--Piedmont's pitching staff of SARAH WALKER and MELISSA ECKMAN combined to give up just seven hits on the day as both earned their 11th wins of the season. 
--HALEY HIXON was 3-for-3 in the second contest of the day scoring the lone run in the bottom of the first. 

Inside the Box Score
--MELISSA ECKMAN and SARAH WALKER both earned their 11th victories of the season which ties them at the top of the league standings for wins in 2017. 

News & Notes
--Both of Piedmont's runs in the first game were unearned.
