Hoban's Three Homeruns Propel Piedmont Past Mary Baldwin 9-0, 11-3

Location: Staunton, Virginia - Mary Baldwin University

Staunton, VA - It was the HANNAH HOBAN show Saturday in Staunton, Virginia as the sophomore slugger led the Lady Lions to a pair of wins over Mary Baldwin University 9-0 in five innings and 11-3. Hoban was a combined 5-of-8 in the two games with three homeruns, five runs scored and seven RBI. 

The Lady Lions took a 9-0 victory in five innings in game one thanks to an explosive offense and SARAH WALKER pitching lights out. Walker earned the win in five innings allowing just four hits while striking out five batters. 

Four Piedmont batters had two hits each as HALEY HIXON, HANNAH HOBAN, JESSICA BAGWELL and AUDREY ESAKOFF each recorded a pair of hits. Bagwell had a homerun in the fifth inning to drive across the final runs making it 9-0 and ending it in five innings. 

Game two saw PC pick up where it left off offensively as Hoban hit her first homerun of the day in the top of the first as the third batter up scoring two. Hoban would again homer in the third inning making it 3-0 Piedmont.

Mary Baldwin would fight back to push across two runs in the third and another in the fourth inning but the Lady Lions led it 5-3 after four innings. Hoban connected on her final homer of the day in the sixth inning with another 2-run shot. 

Finally, PC would push across four runs on five hits in the top of the seventh to seal the 11-3 win. MELISSA ECKMAN moved to 10-5 on the season pitching 5.1 innings allowing three runs and striking out five batters. 

Turning Point
--The Lady Lions used a five run third inning to take control of game one with HANNAH HOBAN driving in ALLYSON GENTRY and KORY BEST for the first two runs of the game.
--HANNAH HOBAN again was the difference maker as she had homeruns in the first and third innings to make it 3-0 PC in the second game. 

Standout Performances
--HANNAH HOBAN was 5-of-8 on the day including going 3-of-5 in game two with three homeruns. 
--Both SARAH WALKER and MELISSA ECKMAN earned their 10th wins of the season in the circle. 

Inside the Box Score
--Hoban's three homerun performance in game two gives her six home runs at Mary Baldwin after having three last season in the doubleheader at MBU. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont combined for 29 hits on the day to the Fighting Squirrels' 14 hits.
