Montgomery, AL - The Piedmont College baseball team rallied for a 12-3 win on Saturday against the Hawks of Huntingdon College. The offense exploded in the sixth and seventh innings with five runs in each frame but it was the pitching of freshman SAM CARPENTER that stole the show as he pitched the complete game striking out 11 batters.

TYLER BURDETTE gave Piedmont the lead 1-0 on the second pitch of the game as he homered to right center, but the lead was short lived as the Hawks scored two in the bottom of the frame. Huntingdon added its final run in the second inning as Carpenter settled in after giving up three runs on four hits through the first two innings.

It was a relatively quiet game until the sixth inning when the Lions offense exploded for five runs on four hits and one error. Three straight singles scored the first run making it 3-2 and with the bases loaded following a BRADY BALLSTADT walk, catcher's interference put ZACH LANGLEY on base and scored JABIN SMITH

JONATHEN BURKETT doubled in the next at bat with a bases clearing double to put PC ahead 6-3 after the sixth. It was a 1-2-3 inning for the Hawks in the sixth and the Lions picked up where they left off with five runs on two hits in the seventh inning to lead 11-3.

The two hits in the inning were coupled with three walks, three stolen bases, a hit by pitch and a wild pitch making for a crazy inning. The final run for the Lions would come without a hit as CALEB NORTON walked to begin the eighth, advanced to third on two wild pitches and scored on a sac fly by JUSTIN GROOVER

Five Lions had multiple hits in the game as Burdette, GRIFFIN OLSON, Ballstadt, Burkett and Groover all had two hits.
