MARYVILLE, Tn. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team tipped off against the Panthers of Ferrum College Sunday afternoon showing a dominant opening quarter to win the contest 68-59.

A seven-point run for the Lady Lions in the first three minutes would write the story of PC's opening quarter as the Lady Lions held the Panthers to a mere eight points while scoring 24 in the opening period. Senior CARLIE SHIELDS would bookend the quarter scoring from three-point land in the opening and closing minute. Half of the points for Ferrum came from the free throw line as the Panthers were unable to find rhythm from the floor. Piedmont would hold strong and go into the quarter break up 24-8.

The Panthers would regroup and come out of the break with a 12-point run to close the gap to four points. BRIDGETTE KELLY would respond with back-to-back 3-pointers with five minutes to go in the half. After a mid-range bucket from the Panthers, DAKOTA SULLENS would hit back-to-back jumpers to keep the Panthers comeback attempt at bay. Jalen Davis would close out the scoring for Piedmont with a long ball of her own and the Lady Lions would head to the locker room leading 37-27.

Ferrum would score only four points in the third quarter as the Lady Lions were back on track offensively scoring another 20 points. With less than five minutes to go in the third, PC would go on a 14-point run with Davis again hitting a late three to give Piedmont a 57-31 advantage heading into the final ten minutes.

The Lady Lions held off the Panthers final comeback attempt in the fourth as they came within nine points in the closing minutes. Piedmont's high scoring first and third quarters had done enough to win the game 68-59.

Turning Point
--The Lady Lions defense held Ferrum to under 10-points in both the first and third quarters helping PC build a strong enough lead to win the contest.

Standout Performances
--Kelly shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc claiming the leading points spot for PC with 12.

Inside the Box Score
--As a team, the Lady Lions went 10-for-14 from behind the three-point line, as PC set a new game-high in 2017-18 with 10 made three-pointers.
