MARYVILLE, Tn. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team was on the road taking on Averett University for a neutral site contest Saturday evening where the Lady Lions took the game 81-76.
Sophomore
Amari Price was the hot shooter for Piedmont as she posted a new career-high of 22-points against the Cougars. Price's 22 points are the most scored by any Lady Lion this season.
The opening quarter was slow for both teams as neither team broke twenty points in the first 10 minutes of play. Piedmont would gain the early lead and hold a four point lead at the first break leading 18-14.
Brittany Walker would score four quick points in the opening minute of the second quarter to set the high scoring pace that was missing in the first quarter. With just over seven to play in the half, Averett gained their first lead of the game after a six point run for the Cougars. After battling back and forth, the teams would knot up with two minutes left in the first half at 37. PC would close out the half with a six point run to go up 45-39 at the half.
The Lady Lions would hold the lead for the entire third quarter as Averett would score 18 to Piedmont's 16. PC's lead was cut to four points by the Cougars who scored a late bucket to close out the third, 61-57.
The lead would change five times throughout the fourth quarter with Piedmont gaining the final edge with less than four minutes to play. The Lady Lions would add a few extra points to hold off the Cougars as PC secured the win 81-76.
Turning Point
--With 3:55 on the clock, Price scored the final go-ahead bucket after exchanging the lead between the teams five times in the fourth quarter.
Standout Performances
--Price led the Lady Lions as she posted a season & career-high of 22-points against the Cougars.
--Walker claimed a double-double in the contest with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont scored 27 points in the second quarter with 25 of them coming off the bench.
News & Notes
--Piedmont is now 6-2 against the Cougars since their first meeting in 2009.
