MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Piedmont College women's basketball team tipped off against the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels early Saturday evening, holding off a late game comeback by OU to give Piedmont the win 66-65.
The first quarter was the best for PC as they put up 18 points to start the game and held the Stormy Petrels to only 11. The 18 point quarter was highlighted by an eight point run by the Lady Lions as they went up 10-5 with three minutes left. Piedmont would win the quarter and build a strong lead after ten minutes 18-11.
The second quarter was started with each team grabbing seven points in the first two minutes of action. Twice in the second, the Stormy Petrels battled within five points of the Lady Lions but a late three pointer from
JATASIA BAILEY would extend Piedmont's lead 35-26 going into the break.
Amari Price and Carlie Shields would tack on early points for Piedmont in the third and the "and one" play from
DAKOTA SULLENS would put the Lady Lions up 41-31 with just eight to go in the third period. The comeback effort for Oglethorpe started with just over three minutes in the quarter as they outscored PC 10-2 in the final minutes of the quarter. PC would hold on to the slight advantage 49-46 heading into the fourth.
Back-to-back threes from the Stormy Petrels would put them up by one with 7:03 on the clock. Shields would score the bucket and draw the foul to even it back at 54-54. The teams would exchange baskets but the Oglethorpe lead would grow to three points with 2:30 left in the contest. Shields started the battle with a jumper and Bailey would get two points in the paint giving PC the one point advantage.
Brittany Walker knocked down two from the charity stripe as Piedmont went up by three. Shields would also head to the line and get one to fall giving Piedmont a four point advantage. The Stormy Petrels would hit a three with two-seconds on the clock, but Piedmont would hold on and win 66-65
Turning Point
--The final minutes for PC would give them back the lead and put enough separation to keep the Stormy Petrels at bay.
Standout Performances
--
DAKOTA SULLENS hit the first double-double for the Lady Lions this season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
--Carlie Shields continued her streak of points with 15 in the contest.
Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont had 17 bench points in the contest split by only two players, Brittany Walker (9) and Jatasia Bailey (8).

--Piedmont now gains the advantage in the overall record against Oglethorpe to 9-8.
