Piedmont Knocks Off Agnes Scott 1-0 in Women's Soccer Action at Walker Athletic Complex

Demorest, GA - Yet another USA South contest for the Piedmont College women's soccer team turned out the right way for the Lady Lions with PC earning a 1-0 victory over Agnes Scott College on Sunday afternoon.

The victory is the second straight in league action and third in the last four for PC who now sits in second place in the USA South West Division with 10 points, two behind leader Covenant College who has won its last six after starting the year 0-1.

Piedmont outshot the Scotties by a wide margin having much of the ball throughout the 90 minutes though it was a lone score from SAVANNAH CASTLES in the 15th minute that gave Piedmont the win. 

Castles was able knock the ball over the oncoming keeper from Agnes Scott, Iara Moran, for the score after TORI GILLETT found Castles through.  With the lead now in hand, Piedmont would continue to put pressure on sending several chances just past the frame in the 1-0 win.

Turning Point
--SAVANNAH CASTLES scored in the 15th minute to set the difference between these two programs lifting the ball over the oncoming Scotties keeper.

Standout Performances
--SAVANNAH CASTLES scored her second goal in as many days with a goal in the 15th minute as she now has three on the season.
--ASHLYN ATNIP recorded her second shutout in as many starts as well with a clean sheet in 110 minutes against Salem earlier in the week.

Inside the Box Score
--The Lady Lions dominated the stat sheet outshooting the Scotties 12 to one, the second straight game that Piedmont has held an opponent to just one shot.
--Piedmont also owned the edge in corners with seven to the Scotties' one.  

News & Notes
--The Lady Lions have now won ten straight in the series between these two programs as the last loss came in 2007. 

Up Next
A step out of conference play with Berry College coming to town for a mid-week showdown at Walker Athletic Complex on Wednesday, September 28.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm under the lights in Demorest with Piedmont also be awarded the USA South Women's President's Cup for the 2015-16 season.  PC won the Cup after posting the highest number of total points with the system based on regular season and championship finishes.
