Maryville, TN - The Piedmont College women's soccer team rebounded from a loss in its USA South opener with a Saturday win at Marvyille defeating the Scots 3-1.  

Piedmont got on the board first with a SAMANTHA ISHEE score in the 23rd minute when she tucked away a deflected service from MEGAN HATFIELD for a 1-0 lead.  The Lady Lions would take the advantage to the half looking for their first conference win of the season.

Early in the second half, Piedmont would get some help towards that victory when ERIN BRIGHT broke free from just inside midfield on a CASSIDY REICH through ball to finish past the oncoming Maryville keeper for a 2-0 lead. 

MC would get one back in the 57th minute to make it a one-goal game, and the Scots would make it more interesting hitting both the crossbar and the far post looking for the equalizer. 

However, PC was able to hold off the pressure and continue to put the Maryville defense on its heels until SAVANNAH CASTLES' left footed blast made it a 3-1 final in Tennessee.

Turning Point
--Coming into the second up 1-0 already, an early breakaway converted by ERIN BRIGHT in the second half gave Piedmont a 2-goal lead and changed the contest for the home team.

Standout Performances
--ERIN BRIGHT scored for the second time in three games with her goal in the 48th minute after coming into the 2016 season with one career score.
--The Piedmont attack as three different Lady Lions scored while each goal was also assisted by a different player.

Inside the Box Score
--Both teams had five shots on goal but Piedmont had the better of the chances scoring three goals to Maryville's one.

News & Notes
--The win for Piedmont at Maryville is the first victory over the Scots on the road for the Lady Lions since the 2001 GSAC Final which saw All-American Sara Borchers score the gamewinner that day in Tennessee. 

Up Next
The Lady Lions' home opener after five straight games on the road to open 2016 as PC hosts Salem College on Tuesday, September 20.  The contest is the first time the two have matched up as USA South foes though the pair spent 2009 to 2011 as conference opponents in the GSAC.  Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm at Walker Athletic Complex.
