Men's Soccer Settles For 1-1 Draw on the Road at Sewanee

Need to Know
Score:  Piedmont 1 - Sewanee 1 (F-2OT)
Records:  Lions 2-1-1 (0-0 USA South), Tigers 4-0-1 (0-0 SAA)
Location: Sewanee, Tennessee - Puett Field

Sewanee, TN -  Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the first half, a second half score by Sewanee forced the Piedmont College men's soccer team to settle for a 1-1 tie on the road earlier this evening.

Both teams would have their chances to end it late including Piedmont who struck the crossbar twice in the second half with JOSE LINARES' effort in the 86th minute denied by the woodwork.

However, neither could find the back of the net after Sewanee's Ben Vaeth tied the contest at one all in the 54th minute.  For Piedmont, it was CULLEN COPLAND who gave the visitors a lead in the 22nd minute.

Copland's score in the first half put Piedmont ahead before the Tigers rallied to draw level. It's the second straight game that Piedmont has struck first after the Lions saw their opponent find the net first in the opening two games of the season.

In the waning moments of overtime, a Sewanee header and a chance for Piedmont in the box both came up empty as the two finished 110 minutes with a 1-1 draw, the first of the year for both teams.

Turning Point
--Sewanee's second half goal put the two deadlocked with neither able to score to break the tie in overtime.

Standout Performances
--CULLEN COPLAND posted the first score of the contest in the 22nd minute on a brilliant through ball which allowed the sophomore to go 1-on-1 with the keeper.

Inside the Box Score
--The goal for Copland was his 3rd of the season as he sits only behind CHASE KANE on the team's top scorers, one off the pace.
--A double assist was charged on the Piedmont goal with both JOSE LINARES and LUKE MARTIN getting credit for a helper.

News & Notes
--This was Piedmont's second overtime contest of the year as PC opened with a 2-1 thriller that saw TOMMY HILL score the game winner vs. Bob Jones.
