Fayetteville, N.C. - The Piedmont College men's lacrosse team fell in their final Southeast Independent Lacrosse Championship (SEILC) game of the year 16-3 to Methodist University earlier Sunday afternoon.
The regular season finale for both teams saw the Monarchs out-shoot Piedmont through three periods and cause 25 Piedmont turnovers as the Lions struggled against the Monarch defense.Â
The three goals scored in the contest came from
TAYLOR CARTER,
BRITT KENNEDY and
DEVON PHILLIPS as
BRANSON MIKELL added a pair of assists on the goals.Â
Methodist was the first to strike but Piedmont evened it at 1-1 with 9:12 to go on a Carter shot and goal, but the Monarchs went on to score five unanswered and take a 6-1 lead into the second period. Piedmont would add another in the second and hold the Monarch to just one as well as Methodist led 7-2 at the break.Â
Piedmont scored in each period but the last as Methodist added nine goals in the second half led by Jake Smerka who had four in the game.Â
Turning Point
--Methodist scored five unanswered to end the first period taking a 6-1 lead over the Lions.Â
Standout Performances
--Senior
TAYLOR CARTER had a goal for Piedmont as well as a pair of ground balls and no turnovers in the contest.Â
Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont was outshot in each period but the second when the Lions had nine shots while holding the Monarchs to just six.Â
News & Notes
--The contest marked the second straight road game that was also a senior day for the home program.Â
