Â - In the final road contests of the regular season, the Lady Lions picked up another pair of victories over Methodist University 4-1 and 6-0. Piedmont now sits at 22-9 this season with an impressive 12-2 mark in league play as the Lady Lions remain in first overall in the conference.
Piedmont took the lead in the fifth inning of game one after
AUDREY ESAKOFF scored on an error that allowed
LAURA CARTER to reach first. In the home half of the frame, the Monarchs tied the game at one after a single and an error as well.
The Lady Lions sealed the victory in the top of the seventh with three runs as Carter singled to left scoring
ALLYSON GENTRY followed by Carter and
HALEY MCCURRY scoring after
JOSIE COKER reached on an error.
Coker was 2-for-4 in the contest as the only Lady Lion to record multiple hits in the game with two of five hits for Piedmont.
MELISSA ECKMAN earned the win in the circle moving to 8-4 giving up one run on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.Â
Game two saw the Lady Lion offense explode with six runs on 10 hits while
AVERY MIGUES allowed just two hits in the shutout in the circle for Piedmont. The Lady Lions scored three in the top of the third with
HANNAH HOBAN,
ABBY SMITH and
ANNA LEE STONE all recording RBI hits in the inning.
The final runs came with two in the fifth and another in the sixth as Piedmont won 6-0 to complete the sweep. Of Piedmont's 10 hits, Smith accounted for four of them getting a hit in each at bat of the game.
ALLISON VAUGHN was the other Lady Lion to record a pair of hits in the contest going 2-for-4 with two RBI.Â
Turning Point--A
LAURA CARTER RBI-single provided the game winning run for the Lady Lions in game one as she has been part of a game-winning play three times in the past two days.
--Carter scored on a
HANNAH HOBAN single through the right side for the first run against the Monarchs in game two as Piedmont put up three in the third inning.Â
Standout Performances--
JOSIE COKER was 2-for-4 in the opening contest but was left on base all three times she reached.Â

ABBY SMITH was 4-for-4 in game two with an RBI.
Inside the Box Score--Piedmont is now 12-2 in conference play with just six contests remaining in USA South play before the tournament.Â
News & Notes--AVERY MIGUES picked up her second win of the season tossing a complete game two-hit shutout.
--Averett University lost on Saturday to LaGrange giving them three losses now as they are in second in the conference race. Up Next--Piedmont will host Agnes Scott on April 2 at home with eight home contests remaining in the regular season.Â
