Lions Win Final Non-Conference Contest 84-77 Over Bob Jones

Need to Know
Score: Piedmont 84, Bob Jones 77
Records: Lions 12-8, Bruins 12-10
Location: Demorest, Georgia - Cave Arena

Demorest, GA  - The Piedmont College basketball team picked up a 7-point win in its last step out of the USA South this season defeating Bob Jones at home 84-77 earlier Saturday afternoon.

The Bruins kept it close in the early going and held a nine-point edge midway through the first half, but Piedmont responded with offense as the Lions rallied to overtake the visitors for a 6-point halftime lead, 42-36.

For Piedmont in the second half, depth played a key factor as the Lions' bench outscored the Bruins reserves 28-15 in the final 20 minutes while holding a 45-20 advantage in the category for the game.

Despite the success, the Bruins kept it close down the stretch hitting on several open looks from three-point land to force Piedmont to earn it at the charity stripe. With a 7-point Piedmont lead after a KELLY ASSINESI free throw with 41 seconds left, the Bruins looked to chip into the margin rolling the ball off the in-bound to save some ticks on the clock.

However, it was Assinesi with a heads up play that sealed the fate for Bob Jones as he seized the moment to come up with the big steal getting himself back to the line and effectively shutting down the Bruin rally.

Turning Point
--The Bruins led by nine after banking back to back to back 3-pointers with 11:15 to play in the first, but the Lions reeled off a 17-3 run to take control of the lead.

Standout Performances
--CHASE ENGLAND scored 17 points in 17 minutes of play giving him his 12th double-figure game of the season.
--TRAE GAINES was in double figures again with ten points while also adding a pair of rebounds, steals, and assists to his line.

Inside the Box Score
--England was 8-of-11 today for a 72% shooting percentage, his second best of the season behind just a 7-of-9 showing against Huntingdon earlier in the season.
--DANIEL MCCRAVY was just one point and one board shy of a double-double on the day.
--MARQUISE LANIER was able to earn 12 points as the team's second leading scorer by going 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.

News & Notes
--The Lions have been hot lately winning four of their last five contests with the only loss coming on the road at North Carolina Wesleyan a week ago today.
--Piedmont is in need of just two more wins this season to secure its first winning season since the 2009-10 campaign when the Lions went 15-11.
